In the spring of 2017 there was a gas explosion in the Schaafstraat a street in the Hamerkwartier in Amsterdam Noord. Back then I used to live in that same street, it’s a industrial area where nothing much used to happen. after I got kicked out of my house, that same year, the area rapidly got more gentrified. a process we are now currently in.
This building got demolished by a fire but most buildings will get demolished by the municipality, plans are to build a new urban district, inspired by the Meatpacking district in Manhattan…
Prior to the explosion a cleaning products warehouse was based in the building along with a barbershop and a car repair shop.
After the fire, most likely because of the cheap rental prices, two contemporary art galleries opened together witch a warehouse for a craft brewery (where we are now).
